Diesel Price Jumps 11.3¢ to $3.715 a Gallon

The national average price for a gallon of diesel surged 11.3 cents to $3.715, the biggest single gain in nearly 1½ years, according to Energy Information Administration data released Jan. 20.

Diesel’s price has climbed 23.9 cents a gallon since the week of Dec. 23.

This week’s increase marked the largest jump since a 13.9-cent spike the week of Aug. 14, 2023, made the price for a gallon at $4.378.

Regional Trends

Although the East Coast has been in the grip of severe cold to start the year, it was the Gulf Coast PADD that posted the largest gain of the week at 13.4 cents a gallon. The West Coast showed the smallest increase at 8.9 cents.
